The sheer number and diversity of fish around Groote Eylandt lures anglers from all over the world, and the Territory’s greatest icon is no exception.

Quite a few ‘metre-plus’ barramundi have been landed by our guests over the years —the holy grail of barra fishing.

Our main barramundi fishery is in Blue Mud Bay, a large, shallow bay on the eastern coast of Arnhem Land, a smooth 1.5 hours by boat from the lodge.

Here, trolling lures past rock bars, creek mouths and gutters and casting at mangrove roots and snags produces heart-pumping action with a trademark flash of silver as a gleaming barra launches itself out of the water.

Your guide will help you master the art of casting and working your lure over structure.

The warmer months—September to April—is the prime barra fishing time, but we’re lucky enough to give our clients a fantastic barra fishing experience all year round.

We can help you hook the Territory’s iconic sportfish. Talk to us about a tailored barramundi fishing trip.
